Northeast Ocean Data adds data, maps, and website enhancements on a rolling basis. We prioritize and develop products primarily to support the regional planning process being led by the Northeast Regional Planning Body (RPB) in collaboration with many public and private sector partners. Generally, our development process includes (1) defining specifications based on user needs, (2) compiling, analyzing, and integrating existing datasets, (3) creating a new interactive map and/or incorporating the data into our existing maps, (4) adding the data to our downloadable databases, (5) publicly releasing the map and downloadable data on northeastoceandata.org, and (6) updating and revising the product over time. For information about the technology used for Northeast Ocean Data, please see the Technical Overview.
In 2016, Northeast Ocean Data released new Marine Life, Habitat, and National Security data products in coordination with the RPB’s release of the Northeast Ocean Plan. New data products, revisions, and enhancements will be posted on Northeast Ocean Data during Plan implementation.
